As you may recall, we recently had an election. Let’s start with a look at how the houses and senates now break down across the country (note Nebraska legislators don’t have an official party).

First, the lower chambers:

As you can see the breakdown between the states is similar, but not quite the same, in most states. For more details, including the party of each governor, see this handy guide.

And what have these fresh new legislators been doing so far this session? Let’s take a look at their activity so far this year:

 

Woosh! About 60,000 bills introduced in 2015 already, and nearly a quarter of a million actions (actions are things like assigned to committee, hearing scheduled, floor vote, etc). If you include bills pre-filed for 2015, there are actually  72,000 bills introduced for 2015 so far (as of 2/15/2015). Here’s how the introduced bills break down across the country:
