Regulation tracking works much the same as bill tracking. This post will walk you though all the basics.

The first thing to know is that we don’t cover all 50 states. We keep a current map of our coverage on the regulations product page. Also, like with legislation, we are looking at proposed regulations, not all current regulations. Finally, unlike legislation, our regulations aren’t updated nightly, but rather on whatever weekly, monthly, or periodic basis that state publishes their register.

OK, with that out of the way, let’s make a regulations sheet! If you haven’t made an account first you’ll need to go do that before you continue. Hopefully you have, so all you need to do is log in. You’ll see a new Regulations Pages tab available to choose:

Like with making a new Bill Sheet, Stakeholder Page, or Scorecard, simply go to the Regulations Pages tab and push the New Regulations Page button.

When you click this button you will go through four steps exactly matching how you create a new bill sheet. First choose a name for your sheet, add some keywords for searching, approve the price ($2,000 a year for unlimited regulations sheets, contact us for a free trial), and finalize your purchase.  You will be taken to a grid listing proposed regulations containing your words:

You can filter and sort regulations just as with a bill sheet. If you click on the page number, you’ll be taken into the bulletin on the appropriate page, with your keywords highlighted to help you find the section that pertains to your topic. Notice we give you a download button so you can easily grab the whole document to enjoy at your leisure.

You can always tweak your query any time by going to the query tab above the regulations sheet grid. This will take you to a query tab much like the legislation query, but with a few key differences.

First, we give you the ability to search by a date range. If you leave the start date blank you get everything before the end date. If you leave the end date blank you get everything through today. If you leave both blank you get everything we have. You can change the dates from time to time to make sure you are getting the right amount of information. Otherwise writing queries is just the same as for bills, and that’s about it.

You can set alerts to be notified when new regulations are proposed containing your keywords. Simply go to the alerts tab and check the New Bulletin box. Finally the manage tab lets you control which users in your account are allowed to see or change the regulations sheet.
