In addition to searching for bills by topic or by number, we’ve added a new kind of search; searching for legislators by name. This new search works much like the bill search.
To get started, log in to BillTrack50, or register for free if you don’t have an account yet. Then simply type the legislators last name (or at least the first few letters of their last name) into the search box that appears at the top of every screen:
When you start typing you’ll see a choice pop up to switch to a legislator search:
Choose the Legislators option and hit enter or click on the magnifying glass to perform the search. You’ll be taken to a results page that looks a lot like the quick search page for bills:
We will show you all current state or federal legislators with a last name beginning with the letters you entered. You can add more information, like first name or state (to search Congress choose United States from the drop down list), to further narrow your results. You can click on any of the columns in the search results to sort by that column, and you can use the magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen to filter your results based on information in any column.
When you find the person you are looking for click on their name, and you’ll be taken to our legislator page for that person. The legislator page shows basic information about the legislator including contact information, as well as a list of bills they’ve sponsored, their last 100 votes (in most states), their staff (if they have any), and a bio about them.
