Filter Your Bill Sheet by Session

Introduction

This blog post will explain the quick and simple steps you need to take to quickly and easily sort your bill sheets by session type. This will allow you to quickly tell which bills are from a specific session that you are interested in, such as a special session. If you would prefer to watch a video on this topic, then you can watch this video here.

How To Modify The Template Of A Bill Sheet

The first step is to modify your bill sheet's template. You can do this by clicking on your name in the top right corner, which will open up a dropdown menu. Then click "Bill Sheet Templates". If you do not see this as an option, then you don't have permission, and will need to ask your company administrator to do this instead.

Choosing "Bill Sheet Templates" will take you to your template management page. Here you can view all of your templates. Select the template that is being used on the bill sheet you are interested in. If you have never made a template before, then this will be the "Default" template. If you are unsure, you can check what template a bill sheet is using by going to that bill sheet and clicking on the "manage" tab; the template you are using will be listed under "Grid Template".

In this case, we will be editing the default template. We can do this by clicking on the edit button as shown below.

Clicking on the edit button will take you to a page like the one below. On this page, you can select any of the columns listed to add to your template.

The column that we are looking for is "Introduced Session". Once you have located "Introduced Session", check the box in the "Visible" column, this will make introduced session appear on any bill sheets using this template.

If you want to, you can reorder the columns to your liking by clicking and dragging rows using the arrows in the first column (they look like a +). If you want to pin the column to the beginning of your spreadsheet you can click the box in the "pinned" column. Pinning is like using "freeze columns" in Excel.

Once you are done, hit "Save" at the top.

How To Filter By Session Type

Now when you reopen your bill sheet you will have a column called "Introduced Session", which will tell you the session that each bill was introduced in.

To filter for bills that were introduced in a particular, simply move your mouse over the "Session" column and three lines should appear to the right of the box. Click on these three lines to open up the filter, like the one below. Now just type in a the any part of the name of the session you want, for example "Special", into filter.

This will filter the bill sheet for only bills that appeared in sessions that have the word "Special" in their name, which naturally will filter the bill sheet to only show you bills that are from special sessions! Notice that the count of filtered bills is shown in the bottom right corner.

Once you are done, open the filter again and click the reset filter button, or simply close your bill sheet, which will return your bill sheet to normal.

Another approach is to click on the "Session" column label (not the three lines), which will sort the whole sheet by session. Then you can scroll down to the bills in the session you are interested in and they'll be grouped together. Hold shift down when clicking on columns if you want to sort by more than one column, like state and then session.
